In 2007, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Center began construction on a 125,000 square foot expansion. The South Expansion is a $65,000,000.00, three story addition, which will help the Moffitt Cancer Center better serve their patients. The expansion includes a 20 bed nursing unit, a clinical lab, a pathology expansion, and a radiation oncology expansion that will house two additional linear accelerators. In addition there will be new exam/prep rooms, support, and waiting areas.
Borrell Electric Co., Inc. completed the electrical service for the Moffitt Cancer Center South Expansion in 2009. The electrical contract value for this new facility was approximately $4,500,000.00. It included the installation of a 2 megawatt generator, and two new automatic transfer switches. All power change-overs were completed with no power loss while the existing hospital was in operation. All projects completed at Moffitt were performed while the hospital remained in operation. Throughout the project and after the project's completion, Borrell Electric helped the Owner through a seamless transition into the new facility.
